Gigabitfilm – first results

It's a very special challenge for me to find out the creative and technical possibilities of this new film material.

In general it seems to be impossible to show the real technical quality in the web, nevertheless I will try to show a glimpse of it here. Because of that I present my works above the average size dimensions, which means that the downloading times are above the average, too.
Although for my opinion the real quality of this material becomes visible from a minimum print size of 20x24", I hope that a bit of the originals' atmosphere can be experienced in that reduced form here.

Here are some personal annotations about the practise which are not meant to be objective:
After missing the mark in the beginning I produced the first useful negatives. The prior useless resulted from trying to use my normal working methods against the producers hints. The normal methods of looking at the negatives are no longer valid. It's not that photography will re-invented again – but if you are prepared for the low sensibility and adjust your working methods to that, you can achieve fascinating results. Surely it comes to some side effects – e.g. the grain focusing device in the darkroom becomes a new significance because Gigabitfilm (1)<EXT> (int.) is nearly grainless.
For zonesystems' users starts a period of thinking over the old methods because controlling the contrast with the time-/temperature-method doesn't work exactly anymore.
A very important step for me was the new Type IV-chemistry which doesn't bring more sensibility but more structure into the shadow parts. That doesn't fit with every motif because this sometimes makes the shadow parts too "bright". So I will use Type II- (I used it against the producers' advices at room temperature) and IV-chemistry parallely.

In short words Gigabitfilm isn't philosopher's stone – but if there is enough light available – a big step which offers many chances although there's the need for improvements. I will use it parallel to my classic materials.
